Five more random things about the New 3DS ⊟

We’ve covered the basics about the New 3DS\XL hardware and today’s related software announcements, but here are a few minor items about the portable, mostly gleaned from the Nintendo’s Japanese FAQ. It’s just random things to think about, s we wait for the handheld to release in the West next year.

  1. No more wireless switch on the New 3DS - you’ll need to turn the wireless function on and off through the Home menu.
  2. Speaking of wireless, you can now transfer media files to your PC without needing to pull out the microSD card. Unfortunately, this feature is supported by only Windows 8.1 and 7 systems, and not Macs. :o/
  3. To disable the built-in web browser’s parental control filter, users will need to register a valid credit card and pay a fee of ¥30 yen ($0.29), according to Kotaku.
  4. But thanks to its HTML5 support, the New 3DS’s browser can now play videos — I expect 3DS traffic to PornHub to spike!
  5. You’ll be able to play most DS games on the New 3DS, except for ones with odd cartridges or casing, like these three releases that Japanese 3DS pointed out.

Also, I said it earlier, but I’ll mention it again: it’s really cute that the colored lines for the Amiibo logo are the same as the ones on the *New* 3DS logo. The GIFs are via Xavier.

"Porn is not about sex, it’s about sexualized power. Porn, a few outliers notwithstanding, is about men fucking women into submission, often violently. If it weren’t, there’d be no choking, no puking, no bukkake, no gang bangs, no double (or quadruple) penetration, no ATM, no slapping, no name-calling, no images of multiple men high-fiving each other while they use and abuse one woman’s body, no porn copy containing phrases like “until she cries” or “watch this little whore get ____” or “Interchangeable Female Body vs. Fearsome Violent Penis.” The porn industry, if it were just all about sex rather than about sexualized hate, wouldn’t be in a race to the bottom with itself to create ever more absurd configurations of bodies, the sole aim of which seems to be to subject women to the most heinous abuse possible.

Don’t bother telling me that the porn you watch isn’t quite that gnarly. Check out the behavior of the men in comparison to that of the women, look at the positions of the bodies, think about the camera angle, listen to what is being said, think about whose pleasure seems paramount, then come back and tell me the porn you watch isn’t just as much (if not more) about dominance and submission as it is about sex."

Boba Fett concept art by Joe Johnston and Ralph McQuarrie with a bonus picture of Jeremy Bulloch in the near-finalized costume.

Before Boba Fett was Boba Fett, Ralph and Joe were tasked with designing an “ultra” Stormtrooper that (I’m assuming) would have been part of an elite Imperial task force or some sort of special forces unit.  Somewhere along development, it was decided that this elite Stormtrooper would instead be its own unique character, and thus, Boba Fett was born.

If I’m putting the evidence together correctly, the design for the costume was practically finalized when it was decided that the trooper would instead become Boba Fett.  As a result, one of the suit’s early color schemes was entirely white to match with the original Stormtroopers.  You can get a good idea of what that looked like via this action figure.  Still, however, you can see that McQuarrie’s early sketches of the helmet (Images 2 and 3) draw heavily from the original Stormtrooper design before attempting to move away from it.

I’m sure these images have made their way around the internet more than enough times, but I’ve had these saved for a while so here they are.  Besides, everybody loves the Fett.

All of these images (excluding the image of Bulloch in costume) were taken from The Dented Helmet forums.  There are more images there along with the ones I’ve posted here, so check it out.
